Business Foundations gives students a big‑picture view of how the business world actually works and why it matters in their everyday lives. Students explore what business is, why businesses exist, and how companies create value for customers and society, from local businesses to global brands. Along the way, they are introduced to the major areas of business—entrepreneurship, marketing, finance and accounting, and management—and see how these functions connect in real case studies.

Students will also learn how markets operate, how different economic systems shape business decisions, and how various types of business ownership participate in both the local and global economy. Through hands-on activities and a project developing a business idea, they begin to connect personal finance decisions to business finance concepts like revenue, costs, and profit. Throughout the course, students build business literacy and practice essential skills such as communication, collaboration, critical thinking, and working with basic data. By the end of the year, they leave with a strong foundation for future business, marketing, accounting, and management education and a clearer sense of how to navigate and contribute to the marketplace as informed consumers, workers, and potential entrepreneurs.

Jensen's Format Writing is concerned with developing expository writing skills for high school students. This type of writing exposes, puts forth, explains, reveals, or exhibits in detail about something. It has a purpose to inform, clarify, and perhaps even to persuade. Such writing may simply describe, or it may give a series of reasons. In any case, there is a fundamental point that is made. How that point is made may often determine whether the piece is accepted or rejected.

Students completing this course will learn the following skills.

-the secret of cutting your work in half when it comes to writing a paper.
-how to order your presentation for its most powerful effect on the reader.
-a technique for getting the essence of what you read down on paper for future reference.
-how to stack up your ideas so that they flow together in a natural fashion.
-how to move ideas from sentence to sentence by following a simple rule.
-all about what and how to document your sources when doing research and writing.

Students will learn several styles of lettering. The main style we will use is called brush lettering that is similar to calligraphy, but not as fussy. Other fonts/styles will be taught and used as well as the school year progresses. While learning lettering, students will create projects (projects will be similar to what was made in the Pinterest Art class) applying different types of lettering to the handmade projects. This style of lettering is useful in arts & crafts, notes (all of Mrs. Harrigan’s sermon notes are hand lettered!), card making, signs, and many more applications. Mrs. Harrigan will also be introducing Procreate as a new portion of the handlettering class this coming year- for those who’ve taken previous years and want to learn new content. Some projects will be new this year, and some will be similar to other year’s class projects (for instance- making cards and canvases, but new projects will include glass and resin projects).
